discovering the 200mm lens

when I started using my camera I used the 50mm lens and every time I tried to use the other lens, 200mm nothing would focus up close. maybe it was just because of me being new and not knowing what to do. not wanting to deal with it I stuck to my other lens, until I finally got the camera itself figured out. Decided tonight I would take a walk to the bridge and try out the 200mm, and just see what i could get and learn on the spot.

Started by taking pictures of the streets a block down and realized I could get this shot. the nearby intersection with the other side of the valley in the backdrop. MWAH. beautiful composition. focus and other settings could be tweaked for a more perfect picture, but that's the point of this project tonight was to learn how to use what I've got.

And just like that the sun was silhouetting the mountain on the other side of the valley , directly behind me.

Then it got dark and I realized my mountain and sunset photography was over, and had to try something else and that's when the fun started. I knew about shutter speed length and setting that to take 6 to 8 second photos to get the light streaks from the cars bumpers and head lights. took some trial and error to get the settings right under the changing lighting conditions it was getting dark quick.

Of course these photos were taken on a tripod, but I quickly walked from side to side facing different directions of traffic to get a good good photo aside from getting the streaks and looks I mentioned.

these photos have to look interesting besides just having this camera effect. that was done mainly while editing but i did do 2 things to get a good composition on these shots.

on the one above I pointed my Camera down at an angle of the road just to capture the street. but if you notice a curve to these lights, i used some distortion editing, and scaling to curve and fit the lights just how they are.

The second thing I did was again framing and knowing where the cars where going to be.

right before i clicked to take these pictures i payed attention to the traffic to catch ideal lighting, or lack of lighting.

The one Above is probably the best of the set. but I really enjoy what comes out of accidents. One time I took a photo and was frustrated with a setting I noticed last minute and picked up my camera mid shot, and took it off the tripod and walked parallel, and i ended up making a more interesting shot on accident. I will share the original unedited followed by the edited and zoomed in.
